The Best Gift You Can Give This Holiday Season
Let’s be totally, completely, unashamedly honest with each other, ok? We love to get gifts! Notice I said “we”? I’m talking about each and every one of us, no exceptions. I know I’m not alone when it comes to enjoying the thrill of ripping open wrapping paper, yanking out all that decorative tissue stuff (really, what’s that all about?) and feasting my eyes on…a pair of socks…or a tie…or, worse yet, the dreaded sweater. Honestly, I’m still a little kid inside, and any gift I receive that can be worn, folded or hung in a closet is kind of a bummer.
But I digress—just the act of opening a gift can change your chemical makeup, even just for an instant. The whole mystery of what’s in the box never gets old! That’s just one of the reasons why I love this time of year! Before you get the image that I’m selfish, you should know I love giving gifts, too! I get the warm and fuzzies whenever I see the recipient’s eyes light up, especially when that receiver is my daughter. Want to know the best gift you could possibly give this Christmas? It’s not expensive, doesn’t need gift wrapped and, best of all, it can literally change someone’s life!
Oh, and if you read all the way to the end, my gift to you is sharing a secret as to how you can experience the thrill of giving in a totally new, absolutely free way! [Read more…] about The Best Gift You Can Give This Holiday Season
CEO John McCain Shares Horizon Goodwill’s Mission
Horizon Goodwill Industries’ CEO John McCain addressed Washington County business leaders Wednesday, November 4, 2015 during the ongoing Chamber of Commerce breakfast series “Eggs & Issues”.
“The unemployment rate in Washington County is 5.5 percent. The unemployment rate for a person with a disability is nearly twice that at 10.8 percent, so it becomes twice as hard to find a job when you have a disability,” McCain stated.
Mr. McCain proceeded to explain how Horizon Goodwill focuses on providing a variety of job training programs for area residents who face barriers to employment. “We’re in the service business, and the idea behind service, you focus on what you can do for someone, not what you can’t do for someone because you have this background, because you have this barrier. These are things that are open to you. Let’s work on getting those things and gettin you to where you can be.”

Learn More About The Second Chance Act: An Interview With Attorney Rodney Rose
Last week I was very happy to write about The Second Chance Act, legislation that offers non-violent offenders the opportunity to have their criminal record expunged in order to help them find gainful employment. I have to say, this ground-breaking bill can literally change lives—and already has—which is what Horizon Goodwill is all about! Recently, I had the opportunity to discuss the details of The Second Chance Act with Attorney Rodney Rose, Horizon Goodwill Industries’ Director of Regulatory Compliance and In-House Council, who actually helped write new verbiage to be added later this year within the existing bill. I suggest you take a few minutes to read what Attorney Rose had to say regarding The Second Chance Act, Horizon Goodwill’s Legal Expungement Assistance Program (LEAP)and how both are helping to improve the unemployment rate in Washington County.
