Horizon Goodwill held a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for its new Winchester store on Friday, March 6. Customers were lined up outside to be the first to see the new space when the doors officially opened at 9 a.m.

Members of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber as well as Horizon Goodwill board members were also there for the event.  Read more in the coverage by the Winchester Star.

New Store hours are: 
Monday through Saturday – 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sundays – 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please note: The former Winchester store, located at 443 Millwood Avenue, will close as of Tuesday, March 3. As of that date, all donations will need to be taken to the new store location on Valley Avenue.

New location!

Horizon Goodwill’s Workforce Development program in Winchester has moved to a new site located in downtown Winchester: 2 N. Cameron Street, Winchester, VA  22601.

This site will feature the same resources as the previous location including job training services and other employment resources.

Directions & Information:

Parking is available in the Judicial Center parking lot at the building. The entrance to the Resource Center/Workforce Development program is through the set of double doors located at the rear of the building. Please note: the building is secured so you will need to ring the doorbell on the bottom right side of the double doors with the Goodwill logo for entry.  If you do not get an answer, please call the number on the sign in the window and someone will be down to let you in. On Saturday, January 25, the Hagerstown Lions Club held their Winter Volunteer Event at Horizon Goodwill with the goal of sorting and packaging 1,000 books in three hours. The books will go to children in Pre-K through 5th grade in Hagerstown-area schools. The group was excited to exceed their goal and packaged 1,066 books! Horizon Goodwill has partnered with the Lions Club over the past four years on this book project and supplies books that have not sold in our stores and are destined for recycling. During 2019, this partnership put over 9,400 books into the hands of children in our community! Thank you, Hagerstown Lions Club, for your hard work on this project!

Horizon Goodwill Industries recently named Sharon Ahrens, CPA, as the organization’s Chief Business Officer. Ahrens has over 16 years’ experience in operations and accounting and has been with Horizon Goodwill since 2016 in her former role as the Director of Accounting and Finance.

 In her new role, Ahrens will oversee and guide multiple departments as they carry out the organization’s updated strategic plan. She shared her excitement on helping to advance Horizon Goodwill forward.

“Each day I wake up energized because I have the opportunity to contribute to this organization and our community. I am inspired to work among a group of talented people who are all dedicated to the mission of Horizon Goodwill, and it’s my goal to better support everyone in their efforts toward removing barriers and creating opportunities.”

Horizon Goodwill’s CEO, Dr. David Shuster, expressed the positive impact that Ahrens and her new role will have for the organization.

“Sharon Ahrens is an exceptional leader, and her ability to balance vision with operational effectiveness is invaluable to Horizon Goodwill as we continue to grow into the future and expand our mission,” Shuster said.

Ahrens previously was a senior accountant for a non-profit association in Washington, DC and, prior to that, she served as the Orchestra Manager for the Maryland Symphony Orchestra for six years.

Volunteering in the Hagerstown community is something that Ahrens enjoys, and she currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Discovery Station as the treasurer. She and her husband, along with their two sons also recently became residents of Hagerstown after moving from Hedgesville, W. Va.
