A Special Thank You from Horizon Goodwill Industries
November is the month to give thanks. During the month of November every person is thinking about what they are thankful for, reaching out to loved ones, and expressing gratitude for the little things in life. Goodwill is an organization with a mission to help those within our communities that need a helping hand. We provide job training, skills development, and job placement services to those who are facing barriers to employment. All this could not be possible without you, our donors, shoppers, and community and business partners. So this month, and every month, Horizon Goodwill Industries gives thanks to YOU for all that YOU do.
Thank you for your Donations
Donations make the world go ‘round at Horizon Goodwill Industries. Your donations are turned into Goodwill’s job training programs. Depending on the type of donation you provide us with, it will either go to our retail stores or become part of one of our business solutions programs. Donate your old computer – we will recycle it and turn that into a bright future for someone in the community. Donate your car and you just provided anywhere from 100-200 hours of job readiness training. Horizon Goodwill Industries has placed 174 individuals into jobs this year, and that number is increasing every day.
Thank you for Shopping at Goodwill
Attention thrifters, bargain chasers, treasure hunters, Goodwill shoppers: THANK YOU for choosing Goodwill. When you purchase an item at Goodwill, 90 cents of every dollar goes right back into our job training and vocational skills programs. Just by purchasing that over-sized sweater and miniature elephant statue you thought was oh-so-cute, you provided job training to someone in pursuit of a happier life. Thank you for your loyalty! Not only did you find your very own needle-in-a-haystack but you also helped your community become a better place. Always remember, YOU make the difference when you shop at Goodwill.
To our Partners
To our partners within the community: we cannot thank you enough for your support, collaboration, facilitation of events, and ultimately spreading our mission throughout the community. We would not be able to provide the services we do if it was not for you and your continuous support.
Among those we want to thank are the City of Hagerstown and The United Way of Washington County for always lending a helping hand, providing volunteers, and being a facilitator for our seasonal labor training programs. During 2013, the two Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale events combined brought in more than 40,000 pounds of donations. The Columbia Bank – Hagerstown Trust Division helped to raise about 18% of that by partnering with us and collecting donations in their brand offices.
To our business partners, thank you for hiring us to help your business grow. Our partnerships with HBP, Berry Plastics, Fil-Tec, Source America, and Maryland Works, just to name a few, have aided us to fulfill our mission of getting people into jobs along the way. Thank you for connecting with Goodwill Industries to help those who need a helping hand in our communities.
Horizon Goodwill Industries believes in the Power of Work, but you are the ones making our dream and their dreams come true every day. In this season of thanks, we are grateful for you and all you help us do!
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Success Story: Jessica and Billy Roberts
The West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services referred Jessica and Billy Roberts, of Romney West Virginia, to Horizon Goodwill Industries. The brother and sister have recently completed their Community Based Assessment, a tool used to determine their level of job readiness, at the Hampshire County Library.
In July 2013 Jessica and Billy began completing a 45-hour assessment at the library assisting with the library’s pre-school hours. During this time Jessica and Billy assisted Ms. Puhalla in doing arts and crafts during the children’s activity time as well as assisting with other projects around the library. On October 2, 2013 Jessica and Billy completed their assessment at the library. The library staff sponsored a going away party for Jessica and Billy, thanking them for their service.
Horizon Goodwill Industries would like to thank the Hampshire County Library for giving Jessica and Billy such a wonderful experience, as well as congratulate Jessica and Billy on the completion of their Community Based Assessment!
