Welcome back! My goal is to educate and excite you about all that Goodwill does for our community and what it can possibly do for you and/or your business! If this is the first blog you have read in this series, please feel free to see how it all got started from my first entry here.
Fire and Rescue efforts are a service that we are all fortunate to have access to by virtue of being part of a community, but that we prey we will never need to take advantage of. These brave men and women put their lives on the line daily to ensure that the communities they serve are protected and for that, we should all be grateful. But learning these skills does not happen overnight. There are countless hours of classroom and situational training that go into ensuring these individuals have the skills and tools they need to optimize their chances for success.
Horizon Goodwill Industries is proud to be partnered with MFRI. This is a school located in Cumberland, MD that operates under the University of Maryland system to provide fire and rescue training to those entering this noble field of service.
For several years, Goodwill employees have kept this facility clean and looking its best so that the students can focus on their learning objectives. This site is part of a janitorial route that provides 4 individuals with employment opportunities, that would otherwise struggle to find work. Through patient supervision and direction, they are learning transferable skills that will help them continue to give back to their community through the power of work. They take great pride in the work they perform and the staff at MFRI have nothing but good things to say about their services. I recently had the pleasure to visit this site first hand with a 3rd party inspector. We heard the same thing here that we heard at all of the sites we inspected-Horizon Goodwill does a great job for us!
