Horizon Goodwill Industries (HGI) will hold its Annual Power of Work Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 4th at the Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner and awards ceremony will follow at 6:15 p.m.
These awards were established 61 years ago to recognize clients and graduates for their personal achievements, businesses or organizations who have been instrumental in helping Goodwill carry out its mission on a daily basis during the past year, and retiring board members who have served their full terms.
The Bennett S. Rubin Graduate of the Year honor goes to Katie Acton, a resident of Cumberland, MD for her outstanding achievement in overcoming barriers to attaining and maintaining employment after completing a Goodwill program of services. Katie is employed by U.S. Metro group in Cumberland, MD.
Jesse Carpenter of Winchester, VA will receive the Achiever of the Year award in honor of the progress he has shown in overcoming barriers to employment while still benefiting from the Goodwill work environment or receiving services to support employment at a community site.
A special award of achievement, the Chuck Robinette Spirit of Goodwill Award, will be given to Ronnie Snowberger, of Hagerstown, MD. This award was established in memory of a former client at our Cumberland Adult Day Habilitation Program. This award is given to a client who participating in a program or service and who, through their exceptional hard work and perseverance, displays a true Goodwill “spirit” in overcoming or learning to live with a variety of barriers.
New this year is the Team Spirit Award which is being established to recognize the qualities of Teamwork and Loyalty to Horizon Goodwill Industries. It is being awarded to our ATF Custodial Crew: Andrew Hambrick, Vicky Hite, Lisa Miller, Jordan Smith, Ricardo Sample, and Janet Wright, for their outstanding efforts.
Sign Zone, Inc. will receive the Business Partner of the Year award. This award is given to a company or organization that has partnered with Horizon Goodwill Industries through a contract relationship and shown significant benefit to our clients by providing work opportunities for the individuals we serve.
Planet Fitness, located in Cumberland, MD, will receive the Employer of the Year honor. This award is given to an employer who has demonstrated outstanding concern for people with disabilities and other special needs by hiring our graduates or otherwise contributing to greater outplacement of our program participants.
YMCA Gilchrist Center, located in Cumberland, MD will receive the Mission Partner of the Year honor. This award is given to a company or organization that provides aid or has otherwise supported Horizon Goodwill in its efforts to assist people with disabilities or other special needs thereby helping Goodwill fulfill its mission on a daily basis.
The Massey H. Roe Community Service Award will go to The Hampshire County Library of Romney, WV for their support of the Goodwill Mission. This award was established to honor individuals that have made a significant contribution to the advancement and fulfillment of Goodwill’s mission in our community.
Also being recognized for their service will be retiring board members Melinda Cannon of Martinsburg, WV, Rob Ferree of Sharpsburg, MD, Roseann Fisher of Hagerstown, MD, Lou Giustini of Greencastle, PA, Brad Pingrey of New Market, MD and Sharon Ruppenthal of Williamsport, MD. A special award for service will be given to Mike Zampelli of Hagerstown for his service as Board Chair.
