Horizon Goodwill Industries (HGI) will hold its Annual Power of Work Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 6th at the Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner and awards ceremony will follow at 6:15 p.m.
The individuals and organizations being recognized at this event are being singled out for their personal achievements and commitment to the Goodwill mission of helping people in our communities that want to work but experience barriers to employment.
Bennett S. Rubin Graduate Of The Year
We are proud to announce the award this year goes to two individuals. Both Justin Small, a resident of Cumberland, MD and Mary Booker, a resident of Oakland, MD are being honored for their outstanding achievement in overcoming barriers to attaining and maintaining employment after completing a Goodwill program of services. Justin is employed at Hunter Douglas in Cumberland and Mary is employed at Lowes in Oakland, MD
Achiever Of The Year
Christopher Robbins, of Hancock, MD, David Smith of Cumberland, MD and Keshia Sawyer of Woodstock, VA will receive the Achiever of the Year award in honor of the progress they have shown in overcoming barriers to employment while still benefiting from the Goodwill work environment or receiving services to support employment at a community site.
Chuck S. Robinette Spirit of Goodwill Award
A special award of achievement, the Chuck Robinette Spirit of Goodwill Award, will be given to Tammy Stottlemyer, of Hagerstown, MD. This award was established in memory of a former client at our Cumberland Adult Day Habilitation Program. This award is given to a client who participating in a program or service and who, through their exceptional hard work and perseverance, displays a true Goodwill “spirit” in overcoming or learning to live with a variety of barriers.
Business Partner Of The Year
Washington County Department of Social Services receives the Business Partner of the Year award. This award is given to a company or organization that has partnered with Horizon Goodwill Industries through a contract relationship and shown significant benefit to our clients by providing work opportunities for the individuals we serve.
Employer Of The Year
Macy’s Online Sales Distribution Warehouse, located in Martinsburg, WV, will receive the Employer of the Year honor. This award is given to an employer who has demonstrated outstanding concern for people with disabilities and other special needs by hiring our graduates or otherwise contributing to greater outplacement of our program participants.
Mission Partner Of The Year
Lord Fairfax Community College will receive the Mission Partner of the Year honor. This award is given to a company or organization that provides aid or has otherwise supported Horizon Goodwill in its efforts to assist people with disabilities or other special needs thereby helping Goodwill fulfill its mission on a daily basis.
Massey H. Roe Community Service Award
The Massey H. Roe Community Service Award will go to Mr. Christopher B. Shank of Boonsboro, MD for their support of the Goodwill Mission. This award was established to honor individuals that have made a significant contribution to the advancement and fulfillment of Goodwill’s mission in our community.
Also being recognized for their service will be retiring board members Spence Perry of McConnellsburg, PA and Stuart Mullendore of Boonsboro, MD.
Five retail store managers will be recognized for Outstanding Sales during 2014 from the following stores: Grantsville, MD, Charles Town and Romney, WV, Greencastle, PA and Woodstock VA.
These awards were established 60 years ago to recognize clients and graduates for their personal achievements, businesses or organizations who have been instrumental in helping Goodwill carry out its mission on a daily basis during the past year, and retiring board members who have served their full terms.
