As I’m writing this it’s Tuesday….October 28th…..9:30 am to be exact…why is all of this important? Because Friday is Halloween, and my wife just shared with me that we’ve been invited to a neighborhood costume party. Again, why is this weighing on my mind so heavily? Join me for a trip into my world!
“We Have To Attend The Halloween Party!”
It never fails. My lovely wife always springs things on me at the very last minute. Granted, it’s not always in her control, it just seems like it. Regardless, she just called me at the office to tell me about a conversation she had at the school bus stop. As a faithful Horizon Goodwill blog reader, you may recall that we recently moved the family to the area from Pittsburgh, with all of us taking very well to the new neighborhood.
“Krista down the street invited us to a parents only Halloween party on Friday! All the kids will be having their own party at Dave and Julie’s house so the adults can actually enjoy themselves. It will be fun! We have to go!”
“Ok, Missy, that’s cool. It does sound like fun. We’re going to dress in our Scooby Doo character costumes, right?”
I literally had to hold the phone away from my ear as she responded: “No! We’re not going to go to one of the first community events we’ve been invited to as a couple of cartoon characters! We need to find costumes that are totally unique!”
“And we have to find them quickly….”, I mumbled.
“What did you just say?” “Nothing, dear. When I get out of work tonight we’ll go to the Goodwill store, just like I did with Kaitlyn. I’m sure we can find some really cool clothes to make some truly memorable costumes.”
Find Your Halloween Costume At Horizon Goodwill
So here I am…thinking of a creative disguise for Missy and I to wear to Krista’s Halloween party. I’m sifting through my memory bank, recalling the amazing selection of donated clothes, shoes, housewares and books that were available during my last visit.
I remember a really cool retro black leather jacket that was only $15…maybe we could dress as Danny and Sandy from Grease? What are the odds I get Missy to wear the Olivia Newton-John get up from the end of the movie? Who am I kidding, she would so rather go as Sandy from earlier in the movie…..
What about a pair of zombies from The Walking Dead? We both love that show! I would be down with an undead costume, there’s always tons of donated clothes we can rough up to transform us into lurching walkers. Forget it; I can already hear my wife: “Are you crazy? Do you want to scare our daughter?”
I’m running out of time here. My desktop is literally overflowing with work…I have no idea why I told Missy I would take care of this Halloween Costume Crisis. Great, now my direct line is ringing….
“Hello? Yes, Missy….really? Cool! I’ll check it out first chance I get! See you tonight….love you, too!”
Awesome! Why didn’t I think of that? She found the perfect costume on Horizon Goodwill’s Pinterest page! She even said, and I quote: “You decide if we’re going as Mad Men’s Don and Betty Draper or Pee Wee Herman and Audrey Hepburn.”
Wow…what a crazy, unique set of options, huh? Regardless, I have to admit I’m a bit excited about not only finding our last minute costumes at Horizon Goodwill, but also being able to contribute to the greater good; providing job training to community members with barriers to employment.
So, dear readers, what Halloween costume do you think I should choose? Let me know in the comments section below!
