Does everyone recall two weeks ago when I shared what my wife and I experienced at the Horizon Goodwill Awards Dinner? Interestingly enough, a conversation I had with a table guest that evening is actually making news. Come along with me and I’ll share the fascinating story of how Hagerstown’s Downtown Movement is helping add some excitement this weekend, and Horizon Goodwill is smack dab in the middle of it!
You’ve Never Seen A Hearse With A Trailer Hitch For A Reason
I’ve always had an eclectic taste in music with the exception of thrash metal, hip-hop and, well, country. It’s not that I despise those genres, I can find something that appeals to me in each of them, it’s just there are so many other types of music that gets me going and only so many hours in the day. I just might get flamed for this, but I never really cared for the headache inducing sounds of Metallica, or the rhyming styles of Run D.M.C. As far as country goes, I do have a soft place in my heart for Johnny Cash thanks to my father, and I guess I can listen to Willie Nelson when the spirit moves me, but it’s just not my thing. Hey, everyone has different tastes—that’s what makes the world go round after all. But I did hear a pretty catchy song today by Kristian Bush that just may have me changing my ways. In order to explain how I found myself actually not only enjoying this particular song and artist, but even prepared to give the singer my seal of approval, first I have to explain my convoluted theory of music. The Horizon Goodwill Awards Dinner—An Eye Opening Experience

Celebrating Earth Day Might Benefit Me More Than Anyone Else!
I’m that guy, you know the one. For some reason I have a mental block when it comes to remembering special dates, everything from birthdays to anniversaries. I can’t explain it, I’m just missing something in my DNA when it comes to recalling things like that. My wife is just amazed by this, as she’s quick to point out I can recite the entire starting lineup for the 1979 World Series Pittsburgh Pirates, but for some reason, I can’t remember when my daughter was born. I mean, I know her birthday is at the end of January, but that’s one of those tricky months with 31 days in it…or is it 30?
Anyway, I consider myself fortunate when, every April, I turn on the television and see a piece about Earth Day. Yes, I like to think of myself as the type of person that does his part to keep his carbon footprint to a minimum, and I separate my recyclables every week, but I must admit I have an ulterior motive for looking forward to Earth Day.
