I’m guilty. I love reality television. Let me clarify—I love certain types of reality programing. I can’t, however, watch nearly 99% of it. I simply don’t care about a rich guy trying to find his next wife, what restaurant needs turned around and I could very happily live my life not “Keeping Up With The Housewives of Duluth, Iowa”. But I will tell you one program that is just captivating: A&E’s “Storage Wars”.
If you haven’t stumbled across this show yet, let me explain the premise. Apparently, when the rent on self-storage units isn’t paid in a timely manner, the proprietor is permitted to auction off the contents to the highest bidder. The catch, and what makes it so fascinating, is that bidders aren’t allowed to browse the unit beforehand. They are only permitted to stand at the entrance, peer inside, and decide if they want to place a bid. The audience and the buyer don’t know if the locker is a bust or a treasure chest until after they “pay the lady”. Pretty neat concept, and trust me, it makes for some fascinating television.
This prompted me to think about all the wonderful things that have been discovered at Goodwill Stores across the country…
Some Amazing Finds At Goodwill Stores
So I set myself up with a cup of coffee and fired up the oracle that is Google and began my search. What I found was pretty, pretty, pretty cool….
According to a social media forum I came across, and please keep in mind, I can’t vouch for the validity of these statements; there have been some serious treasures savvy shoppers have found in Goodwill stores. Here’s just a brief sampling:
- A fully functional Xbox 360 purchased at a rock bottom price!
- A Brooks Brothers Suit for a fraction of retail!
- A state-of-the-art espresso machine, in working order, for less than coffee press!
- A gold coin, later valued at $900, purchased for only $2.00!
Of course, these are unique finds, but I want to know what our readers have discovered at local Horizon Goodwill stores.
Did you find a rare book that later you discovered was a valuable First Edition? Maybe you purchased an amazing kitchen appliance that would have cost you hundreds of dollars at retail. I don’t know…maybe you saved thousands of dollars by finding the exact wedding dress you envisioned since you were a little girl playing dress up!
Come on, readers; share your stories with us! And if you found a pair of charcoal colored pants, size 38 waist, 32 length that are stylish and comfortable, do me a favor, please, keep it to yourself. I still can’t believe my wife donated those without my consent….
Ok, the floor is yours! Let’s hear about your discoveries!
