I like to work from home sometimes, not a lot, but sometimes. With the recent cold weather leading to school closings, my daughter, and all of her classmates for that matter, has been spending more time at home as well. Anyway, last week I was working at my desk and Kaitlyn, my second-grader, was playing with this educational tablet device thing that “Santa” left for her. Little did I know she was recording my speakerphone conversation with Deb from Horizon Goodwill. Want to read the transcript? Of course you do!
John
Hey, Deb, I just wanted to let you know to be expecting a call from my friend regarding Business Outsourcing Solutions. She should be reaching out to you today or tomorrow.
Deb
Sounds good! Did you speak with her about our Business Outsourcing Solutions as well, or are you leaving that one up to me?
John
Uh, well, I might have forgotten to mention it…but I figured you two gals would be talking for a while and it would come up, you know?
Deb
Well, this gal is just giving you a hard time! Thanks for thinking of our business solutions, we always appreciate it!
John
Ah, you almost had me there! So what else is going on in Deb’s always-busy life? Anything exciting?
Deb
The same thing that happens every year when the weather gets this cold—sales at our retail stores tend to increase, but donations slow way down…
John
A little bit of good and bad, huh?
Deb
Well, we love the fact that sales are brisk, no pun intended, but the freezing temperatures keeps everyone from dropping off their donations. This starts a whole domino effect, and not in a good way. Lack of donations equates to lack of work, meaning our employees are affected, which also means funding for our job training programs also takes a hit.
John
Yeah, I read about this in the newspaper. Is there anything I can do? You know Missy, Kaitlyn and I recently discovered the importance of donating to Horizon Goodwill, are there other ways to help?
Deb
Just keep getting the word out! Maybe you could setup a Donation Station at your house and invite your neighbors to donate? It’s a great way to get your immediate community involved in helping others.
John
That sounds pretty cool! I’m seeing a blog article about this topic formulating in my mind right now! Hold on a second….Hey! What are you doing under my desk?
Deb
Excuse me?
John
Get out of there! Are you recording me? Give me that thing!
(Indecipherable little girl giggling)
John
Don’t make me chase you!
Deb
Ok…I’m going back to work, John….Bye
(click…dial tone…)
John
Kaitlyn!
