Named after Greencastle, County Donegal, Ireland, the borough in Franklin County was incorporated in 1805 at the intersection of the Baltimore and Carlisle pikes. During the Civil War, Confederate troops marched through Greencastle on their way to Gettysburg. More recently, Greencastle was an industrial town.
